Coming Soon Pre-Order Week of 1/6/14

Welcome to 2014 my friends. Time flies so it is Time to get reading.  Here are the upcoming books I recommend.

Return to Tradd Street By Karen White. Available January 7, 2014.

Melanie is only going through the motions of living since refusing Jack’s marriage proposal. She misses him desperately, but her broken heart is the least of her problems. Despite an insistence that she can raise their child alone, Melanie is completely unprepared for motherhood, and she struggles to complete renovations on her house on Tradd Street before the baby arrives.

When Melanie is roused one night by the sound of a ghostly infant crying, she chooses to ignore it. She simply does not have the energy to deal with one more crisis. That is, until the remains of a newborn buried in an old christening gown are found hidden in the foundation of her house.

As the hauntings on Tradd Street slowly become more violent, Melanie decides to find out what caused the baby’s untimely death, uncovering the love, loss, and betrayal that color the house’s history—and threaten her claim of ownership. But can she seek Jack’s help without risking her heart? For in revealing the secrets of the past, Melanie also awakens the malevolent presence that has tried to keep the truth hidden for decades.

I cannot wait for this release, I preordered 4 months ago! I love Karen White and the next novel in the Tradd Street series follows The House on Tradd Street, The Girl On Legare Street (Tradd Street) and The Strangers on Montagu Street (Tradd Street).  You don't have to start at the beginning but what fun to read a series! So I recommend buying The House on Tradd Street.

Calling all Charlaine Harris Lovers. This woman can write and I have never been disappointed in any of her books. Recently she has begun working with other authors AND Ms. Harris has a new book releasing in May! I cannot recommend Charlaine Harris enough and while I don't read many graphic novels, I must try her new offering below.  Other Recommendations follow.

Cemetery Girl: Book One: The Pretenders (The Cemetery Girl Trilogy) By Charlaine Harris and Christopher Golden with artwork by Don Kramer. Available January 7, 2014.

She calls herself Calexa Rose Dunhill—names taken from the grim surroundings where she awoke, bruised and bloody, with no memory of who she is, how she got there, or who left her for dead. She has made the cemetery her home, living in a crypt and avoiding human contact. But Calexa can’t hide from the dead—and because she can see spirits, they can’t hide from her.

Then one night, Calexa spies a group of teenagers vandalizing a grave—and watches in horror as they commit murder. As the victim’s spirit rises from her body, it flows into Calexa, overwhelming her mind with visions and memories not her own.

Now Calexa must make a decision: continue to hide to protect herself—or come forward to bring justice to the sad spirit who has reached out to her for help.

Midnight Crossroad (A Novel of Midnight, Texas) By Charlaine Harris. Available May 6 2014. You might as well order this now, I have.

Welcome to Midnight, Texas, a town with many boarded-up windows and few full-time inhabitants, located at the crossing of Witch Light Road and Davy Road. It’s a pretty standard dried-up western town.

There’s a pawnshop (someone lives in the basement and is seen only at night). There’s a diner (people who are just passing through tend not to linger). And there’s new resident Manfred Bernardo, who thinks he’s found the perfect place to work in private (and who has secrets of his own).

Stop at the one traffic light in town, and everything looks normal. Stay awhile, and learn the truth.

Teacup Turbulence (A Pet Rescue Mystery) By Linda O. Johnston. Available January 7, 2014.

Los Angeles animal shelter manager Lauren Vancouver has a soft spot for animals in need—and a keen eye for crime. Thanks to a savvy ad campaign featuring teacup pups sporting HotPets Bling—a new line of faux jewelry dog collars—small dog adoptions have skyrocketed across the city.

So when Lauren discovers a shelter in the Midwest with more toy dogs than it can handle, she arranges a private plane to swoop in and fly the pups back to LA. But Lauren didn’t count on rescue worker Teresa Kantrim coming along for the ride. Teresa has cared for the dogs since they were found and doesn’t trust anyone from La-La Land to take over the job. Her biting comments clearly haven’t earned Teresa any new friends, but when she turns up murdered, it’s time for Lauren to dig into Teresa’s past and find out who wanted her put down.

Erased (Altered) By Jennifer Rush. Available January 7, 2014.

They thought they had escaped. They were wrong. After fleeing the Branch with Sam, Cas, and Nick, Anna is trying to make sense of the memories resurfacing from her old life. At the same time, she's learning how to survive in hiding, following Sam's rules: Don't draw attention to yourself. Always carry a weapon. Know your surroundings. Watch your back.

This young adult book is a sequel to Altered.  Everything about Anna's life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch, at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. The boys escape and take Anna hostage.

Blind to the Bones: A Cooper & Fry Mystery By Stephen Booth. Available as an E-book January 7, 2014.

Standup Guy (Stone Barrington) by Stuart Woods. Available January 7, 2014.

Stone Barrington’s newest client does not seem the type to bring mayhem in his wake. A polite, well-deported gentleman, he comes to Stone seeking legal expertise on an unusual—and potentially lucrative—dilemma. Stone points him in the right direction and sends him on his way, but it’s soon clear Stone hasn’t seen the end of the case. Several people are keenly interested in this gentleman’s activities and how they may relate to a long-ago crime . . . and some of them will stop at nothing to find the information they desire.

Fear Nothing: A Detective D.D. Warren Novel (D. D. Warren) by Lisa Gardner. Available January 7, 2014. Lisa Gardner’s latest pulse-pounding thriller, Detective D. D. Warren must face a new fear as a serial killer terrorizes Boston.
